Answers To Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ: FAQ

ARE YOU LICENSED?

Yes! We are fully licensed with East Lindsey District Council for home boarding and day care. To receive the license, our paperwork and premises are checked by an inspector so you can be assured that we meet health and safety requirements in line with DEFRA and government guidelines. Our license document is shared with you during your meet and greet. We are also fully insured (policy details available on request), DBS checked, and Canine First Aid trained.

WHAT DO I NEED TO PROVIDE FOR MY DOGS FOR THEIR STAY?

We have beds and toys here at Star Paws Welton but we ask that you provide all food needed for your dog’s stay. We also ask that your dog has a well-fitting collar with their ID tag. We will add our Star Paws tags to them when they arrive.

WHAT PAPERWORK WILL I NEED TO BRING?

We ask that all our visitors are up to date with their vaccinations and flea treatment. We will ask to see their vaccination card during the meet and greet. As per our terms and conditions, dogs will only be able to attend day care and board with us if their vaccinations and flea treatments are up to date. It is also important that vaccinations have been completed at least four weeks before the first date of boarding or in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions. We will also take a note of your dogs’ microchip number.

HOW LONG CAN MY DOG STAY FOR?

Dogs can stay for half a day to several weeks! During their stay they will be treated as members of the family.

HOW MUCH EXERCISE DOES MY DOG GET?

We love our walks! There will be at least two walks a day at a length and distance to suit the age, breed and needs of your dog. We have several lovely walks in our local area where we can walk your dog both on and off the lead (consent for off lead walking will be sought). Dogs also receive several enrichment activities throughout their stay and play plenty of games.

HOW MANY DOGS WILL BE AT STAR PAWS WELTON AT ANY ONE TIME?

We are licensed to look after up to 4 visitors at any one time. This is however dependant on the needs of the dogs and typically we only board dogs from the same household at one time. We will be able to discuss this with you during the meet and greet.

WHERE WILL MY DOG BE SPENDING ITS TIME?

We have plenty of space for your dogs to play, relax and sleep in. We use the garden room with direct access to the garden and the kitchen as a separate room for feeding. Dogs also have access to other rooms on the ground floor with space to separate dogs if needed to give them their own quiet room for sleep or rest.  We have a selection of beds available for dogs to use.

WHAT TIMES CAN I DROP OFF AND PICK UP MY DOG?

We try to be as flexible as possible with all our visitors so please discuss your requirements with us.

WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THERE WAS A MEDICAL EMERGENCY WITH MY DOG WHILST THEY ARE AT STAR PAWS WELTON?

It is important that our visitors are looked after to the best of our ability therefore we are Canine First Aid Trained. We also have policies in place for medical emergencies:
Firstly, we would make contact with you and/ or your emergency contact and then of course seek veterinary advice immediately. This would either be through your own vet as advised, or, our emergency 24-hour vet depending on the severity. We would advise that your dog has pet insurance to help with any costs that this may incur.

WOULD WE FOLLOW SPECIFIC TRAINING ROUTINES?

During the meet and greet it is important that we have as much information as possible about your dog. We work hard to keep to your dog’s training and ask you to share your training commands with us so that we can use them out on walks.

IF MY DOG IS ON MEDICATION CAN WE STILL MAKE A BOOKING?

Yes of course. We have very clear regulations about any medication. We are happy to administer medication as long as we have exact instructions on the label. All medication will be kept in a secure cupboard and only given when required.

WHAT IF MY DOG DOES NOT SETTLE DURING THEIR STAY?

We normally find our visitors settle in quickly once they’ve had a good walk and become acquainted with the new smells. Of course if we feel they are very anxious we will call you straight away (or the emergency contact). We will also provide regular updates during their stay. You can follow your dog’s visit on our Facebook page with regular photo and video updates.

WHAT PAYMENT METHODS DO WE ACCEPT?

Currently we accept cash, bank transfers and PayPal payments.

WHAT IS YOUR CANCELLATION POLICY AND WHEN DO I PAY?

Bookings for home boarding will be confirmed once a 25% deposit has been received (deductible from the final cost of boarding). This is a non-refundable deposit which secures the dates you would like for your dog.
Payment for home boarding and day care services are due upon collection of your pet. Payment for dog walking services can be arranged weekly or monthly.
If for any reason Star Paws Welton has to cancel your booking, you will be given at least 14 days notice (except in extreme circumstances) and your deposit returned to you.

CAN WE STAY IN TOUCH WITH OUR DOGS WHILST THEY ARE AT STAR PAWS WELTON?

Of course! You can call anytime to see how they are getting on. We will also send daily pictures to you and provided we have your permission, we can upload pictures and videos to our Facebook page so you can see what they have been up and how much fun they have been having!
